MeshCom Off-Grid Messenger

What types of messages does an off-grid messenger support?

  • The current firmware version 4.35 supports

      • Text messages (TXT)

        • up to 160 characters per transmission
        • in the ASCII character set
        • Text messages can be sent to
          • ALL: (*-messages) will be sent to
ATTENTION!: Please only send messages to ALL if they are intended to be sent to ALL
          • GROUPS: GRP messages are sent
            • There are groups with 1 to 5 digits
              • The 1- to 3-digit groups are determined jointly
              • Regions can "subscribe" to 4- or 5-digit groups
              • Group 9 is intended for HF-ONLY transmissions in the regional MeshCom network
without routing, including via a server
          • DIRECT: DM messages are sent
            • The message is sent to a specific call sign, including the SSID, and
            • acknowledged by the recipient with an ACK response
      • Telemetry messages

        • Measurement data from various sensor types
        • The measured values are transmitted
          • along with position reports
            • including battery level (%)
          • or in APRS format
          • Forwarding via 3-Tier to aprs.fi …
      • Transfer Path Messages (HEY)

        • Collect along the transmission path
          • Call sign
          • RSSI – Received Signal Strength
          • SNR – Signal-to-Noise Ratio
      • Position Reports (POS)

        • Messages consist of the following field values
          • longitude
          • Latitude
          • elevation above sea level
        • Location data can come from various sources
          • Constant values entered via console messages
          • When used with an app, position data can be transferred from a smartphone, PC, or laptop
          • using a GPS receiver connected to the hardware (including date and time)
        • Methods of transmitting positions
          • Default – Position data is transmitted every 30 minutes
            • As defined in the MeshCom protocols
            • It is transmitted on the MeshCom frequency (default 433.175 MHz)
          • Tracking – as an alternative protocol if you want to use the MeshCom module for "position tracking"
            • The position data (LAT/LON/ALT) is transmitted in the compressed APRS-MIC-E format
            • Transmission occurs on the LoRa APRS frequency (default 433.775 MHz)
where specific LoRa parameters are used
(spreading factor, code rate, and bandwidth)
            • GPS data is recorded every 3 seconds and transmitted at least every 30 seconds using the SmartBeacon feature
            • In tracking mode, the current POS values are also transmitted every 30 minutes using the MeshCom protocol on the MeshCom frequency
      • Special Reports (ACK)
