Fireflies glow from Prater to Kahlenberg
The chances of seeing fireflies are particularly high at the moment - even in Vienna. The fireflies are active from dusk on warm summer nights. The environmental consultancy collects firefly locations on its website, from the Prater to the Kahlenberg.
Many sites, for example on Danube Island and in Lobau
Fireflies can be spotted in Vienna in the Prater, in the Wienerberg recreation area in Favoriten and in Herderpark in Simmering. The fireflies have also been spotted in the Hörndlwald forest in Hietzing, in Auer-Welsbach-Park and at the Steinhofgründe in Penzing.
In Ottakring, for example, the environmental advisory service lists the city hiking trail near the Jubiläumswarte as a place to find them, in Hernals the Schwarzenbergpark and in Währing the Pötzleinsdorfer Höhe. Fireflies can also be seen on the Kahlenberg and the Leopoldsberg in Döbling. There are also numerous sites on the Danube Island in Floridsdorf and Donaustadt, as well as in Lobau. In Liesing, fireflies have been reported at the Liesingbach stream and in the Maurer Wald forest.
Fireflies can also be seen in the garden in Neulengbach.
