On Saturday, December 2, 2023, with fantastic winter weather, more than 20 participants came to the Hohe-Warte in Vienna and 25 participants also accepted the invitation from GeoSphere-Austria (formerly ZAMG) via ZOOM. The presentations began at 10 a.m., such as Chaser reports on the 2023 thunderstorm season, Extremely heavy rain in the Rhine Valley, Major hail events in OE, Report on the "Serve Storms" conference and much more.
Mike OE3MZCand Kurt OE1KBC introduced the topic of crowd sourcing, one of the core topics of the ICSSW - Institute of Citizen Science, to an interested audience of experts in two presentations. The interest in the possibilities of resilient data transfer in the event of a crisis and the use of Crowd-sourcingThe outsourcing of traditionally internal tasks to a group of voluntary users was extremely high.
Mike and Kurt were already able to make the first approaches to cooperation over lunch and were also able to recruit some of the participants for our training courses.
We would like to thank those responsible for the GeoSphere-Austria with this Trusted spotter workshop so many interested people, members of SkyWarnthe ÖVSV and the ICSSW to work together on the idea of collecting, maintaining and evaluating weather data.
To summarize: The presentations showed once again that this critical weather data should be available at all times to enable us to prepare better and in good time for extreme weather situations. However, this requires resilient data transmission such as MeshCom 4.0, HAMNET and APRS, which can supplement the usual data communication structures.

Thank you for this very informative event on citizen science and weather observations.
Ideal for networking!
